COMSOL Multiphysics

MTC is the sole partner and distributer of COMSOL Multiphysics in South Africa.

In short, COMSOL Multiphysics is a Finite Element Analysis modeling tool. The simulation software environment facilitates all steps in the modeling process − defining your geometry, meshing, specifying your physics, solving, and then visualizing your results. Many products within the fields of Computational Fluid Dynamics and Structural Mechanics have adopted "Multiphysics" as a kind of buzzword, but no other product is able to deliver the combined simulation of the wide-ranging phenomena that COMSOL can, in the same application envirnment. Here follows a list:

  • AC/DC
  • RF (Wave phenomena)
  • Acoustics
  • Subsurface flow
  • Geomechanics
  • Structural mechanics
  • Plasma
  • Batteries and fuel cells
  • Chemical reaction engineering
  • MEMS (Microscale electro-mechanical systems)
  • Microfluidics
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics
  • Heat transfer
  • Electrodeposition
  • Define your own Partial Differential Equations / system of equations

Any combination of the above is possible

MTC provides support, workshops, and training for all of COMSOL's products in co-ordination with the COMSOL AB, the head office in Sweden. Our staff has regular training in Sweden and can provide full scale support in most general application areas.

Free Workshops

Workshops are free of charge and are held twice a month, usually at a university or research institution. Attendants have to register upfront, as there is usually some kind of capacity restriction at the venue, and workshops do fill up fast. Attendants have to bring their own laptop - we install a trial version of the latest COMSOL Multiphysics release, with all extra modules enabled on each attendant's computer, and this trial will be valid for two weeks from the dya of the workshop. The workshop then consists of basic training in the use of the product to get all attendants started in the modelling process. Workshop duration is 3 hours. Please check the events page for Africa regularly:

Training courses

We present training courses regularly, depending on demand. We present two general modelling courses for COMSOL:
1. A full day instroductory course, and
2. A two-day course with advanced features.
If you are interested in one of these courses please e-mail krisjan@simulasie.co.za for pricing and further details. We can also present certain application-specific courses (e.g. heat transfer, chemical engineering, etc.) - we cannot at this stage present a course on RF phenomena as an example - please enquire if you are interested in training in a specific area. Each training course attendant will have to bring his/her own laptop - a two week trial of COMSOL Multiphysics will be installed.
